New Zealand Hunting North Island

Come and experience some of the finest red stag hunts available in the World. Also this outfitter/guide has huge Fallow Bucks, Sika Deer, Wild Ram and Wild Goat all in the "Hunters Paradise" that is the New Zealand bush!

Hunting:

Red Stag hunting is spot and stalk and is mainly done on foot , although a quadbike can be used on some areas of the property. The elevations range from 500ft to 2000ft so a moderate level of fitness will assist your hunting opportunities. The landscape is a mixture of mountainous terrain , bush clad slopes and wide grassy meadows.

Your guide has a lifetime of experience hunting and fishing in the New Zealand outdoors and is a member of the New Zealand Guides Association. Small game hunting is also available.

Getting There:

You simply take a connecting flight to Palmerston North Airport where your guide or one of his representatives will meet you. Connecting flights can be made from either of New Zealand's North Island International Airports.

Accommodation:

There are 3 accommodation options available.

  1. A comfortable bush cabin is situated within the hunting area, right in the middle of the action! It is equipped with bedroom, bathroom, electricity and an outside toilet.
  2. You can choose to stay in a comfortable farm cottage surrounded by beautiful gardens just a few miles from the hunting area. This is recommended should you choose to travel with your partner.
  3. A beautiful log house is situated at the foot hills of the Tararua Ranges. Your friendly host can provide extra activities like horse riding. This accommodation is situated approximately 50 minutes from the hunting area, transport to and from the hunting area is provided.

All food and beverage is provided with all 3 options. Enjoy world famous New Zealand produce including venison, beef and lamb topped of with award winning New Zealand wines.

What to Bring:

A good sturdy pair of hunting boots, binoculars, torch sleeping bag, camera, day pack, rifle ( 270cal minium), cold weather cammo clothing, some wet weather clothing is advisable and your personal effects.

Please contact us for the current New Zealand Governments regulations concerning importation of firearms. Bow hunters are welcome.

Seasons:

The hunting season runs from March to mid August, with the roar (rut) being from the end of March through April. This is autumn in the Southern Hemisphere and temperatures can vary from below freezing overnight to around 15c through the day.

The roar (rut) is the most exciting time to hunt red stag's. When the stag's are in full voice calling their challenge to rivals and fighting to keep their harem of hinds.

The following items are not included in the cost of the hunt.

Insurance:

Whilst all reasonable care will be taken during your stay hunting is a potentially hazardous pursuit and your guide or his staff will not be held responsible for loss or injury that may occur. We strongly advise all our hunters to arrange adequate insurance prior to leaving your home. All our hunters will be supplied with our Terms and Conditions and Indemnity Forms prior to the hunt commencement. These forms will be required to be completed, signed and returned two months prior to your hunt.
